Awesome book for your healthy hair journey

The author did an amazing job with this book, It's solid and straight up.... If a person is serious about having healthy hair and not just talking, this book will be the best thing they could read on AA hair and retension. It's everything I searched for in the beginning when I started my healthy hair journey, and yeah I found all my answers with an in depth research all over the place, but with Kibibi's pictures, book, blog and her youtube channel you can find it all in one place. Kibibi's the perfect inspiration for woman trying to attain healthy long hair. One thing I admired is how well she documented her hair journey from ear length to waist length, it's incredible. It's a must read for sure, what the average black girl/woman need to know about our hair.

This is THE Book to read about Black Hair

This book is a pleasure to read. It is informative, encouraging and empowering. Sharifa does not mince words about the misconceptions held about black hair. She clearly dispels these ideas with compelling scientific facts and explanations, well-documented personal evidence, and relatable anecdotes. She clears the air about why hair behaves the way it does and then goes into how you can change what you are doing to get the hair you want.

The interactive format of this book drives introspection on current ideas and behaviors and encourages the reader to reflect on how to achieve future goals. She presents information on a variety of hair types without judgment or favoritism. Her concise explanations of ingredients and science concepts behind why products do or do not work allow the reader to be a more discriminating consumer. She enhances the reader's understanding by integrating multimedia presentations that include discussion and videos found at her blog and youtube.

The Hair Archetypes are a fabulous, unique way of looking at a woman's hair habits. This book takes hours/days/weeks of research and trial and error and puts that information in one place. She then takes it to the next level by suggesting what to do to achieve your hair goals and how to combat common challenges you might meet along the way. This is an amazing, comprehensive book written with love and admiration for all that is black hair.

Very Useful Read

As someone who is a fan of good literature and an advocate of healthy hair, this book offered the best of both worlds. I bought Barnett's book a few days ago and cannot put it down! The author is well versed and knowledgeable about the topic and it is evident in how structured and developed the text is. This is one of the best hair care books I've read, hands down. There's no gimmicks, no expensive products to buy, but it is instead a plea to women of color to change the way we think about our hair.

I am a woman with natural hair and I often find hair care blogs and text to be much too weighed down with opinion and anecdote, which is not beneficial in my own personal hair journey. Barnett's book on the other hand provides footnoted facts about products, dispels myths and offers advice she has learned over time. I was anxious to begin my hair journey toward longer, healthier hair, and I started immediately after I finished the book. The advice is straight forward and practical. It does not call for revamping much more than your mentality.

The advantage of "The 5 Hair Archetypes" is the fact that Barnett allows the reader to work with her current lifestyle, helps her to identify what category she falls within, and how to manipulate that archetype to maximize results. Every woman and her journey will inevitably be different, and Barnett takes this into consideration. Barnett, based on the reading, is a woman who does relax her hair, but she does not advocate or suggest all her readers to do the same. She obviously wants her audience to achieve healthy, long hair regardless if it is chemically relaxed or natural. It is in this way that she offers an universal approach to growing long hair; she does not isolate readers as other hair care manuals do (I know because I have read many of these, but I digress). Anyway, I took the quiz and concluded I am a "Gadget Gal"- I have soft, extremely curly, shoulder length hair that I love to wear straight. I've always had long hair, but when I started college and began bleaching and relaxing my hair, I experienced set backs in retaining length that I now hope to reverse. I now no longer relax or color my hair, but I alternate between wearing my hair curly and straightening it. I live in an area that experiences very humid temperatures and because of this, I realized I am constantly applying heat, and manipulating my locs in order to straighten and maintain my style. Once I realized this, the rest of my reading was tailored to researching this archetype. And the same will be true for women within each of the 5 archetypes. I believe this book works because it does not lump its readers together. Barnett does not operate under the assumption that her exact hair routine will work for everyone, and she explains this, but she offers tips that are universal and very specific notes about products, tools and chemicals.

If you are someone who has a goal of growing her hair, this book is for you. If you believe in quality hair care, you should buy this book. If you're like me and are looking for a new approach to maintaining your hair, do yourself a favor and read this book. Make a commitment to starting a regimen and seeing it through. I took pics of my hair, recorded my goals and hope to see results soon!

OSBI Needs to Solve Business Problems

For many years open source software (OSS) was touted as a `free' option for software solutions. Time and experience have revealed many of the "hidden" costs for OSS implementations. The community approach to the OSS code base has been successful for many vendors. However, things change when OSS vendors seek to make money from the software. Most vendors have added non-community "enterprise" versions of the software that are little different from typical on-premises licensed versions.

Lyndsay Wise does an excellent job of dissecting what kind of tech resource commitment it takes to travel the path of OSS for Business Intelligence (OSBI) solutions. Lyndsay rigorously considers why an organization might consider OSBI, with thorough substantiation of her thinking. She draws on her many years of advising organizations of all sizes on the selection of BI solutions to provide a fair and honest survey of the challenges, drawbacks and benefits of OSBI (Chapter 7 is particularly strong in this area).

Lyndsay makes clear what the overall costs are for OSBI and that many times it is not a free option for organizations. In fact OSS may not be a good choice for most small businesses, and frequently may not be suitable for many mid-sized companies -- due to the on-going IT resources that implementations and maintenance can consume. Lyndsay brings to light in great detail the realities of considering OSS for BI needs and how to delineate all of the costs, both hard and soft. The bottomline may well be that OSBI is still preferable to traditional BI solutions - Lyndsay provides the guidance to find out if that is the case.

To help an organization understand if OSS is a good fit, Lyndsay has created excellent tools through items like "readiness checklists" (such as Chapter 18), as well as frequent assessment lists at the end of many chapters. She continuously asks all the right questions. Most of the assessments are focused on technology and the in-house IT team. OSS is tech-intensive - quite frankly there is less value from the business perspective for OSS in and of itself. For the business side of the story, the value comes from solving business problems, ease-of-use, excellent performance, reasonable cost - just as it would for any kind of BI solution.

200 pages of BS

The author is great at talking about all things except actually saying which OS BI tools are out there and how exactly they compare to each other. If you want somebody to tell you on 200 pages that maintaining OS BI system would require internal time and resources, go ahead. The biggest technical advice is that you might need IT person who knows Java. There is no single practical tip about which vendor to select and why.

Not bad as a premise for using open source, but no real info on how to do so

I found this book disappointing. I was hoping to have more than a casual reference to open source products, and that was not the case. The ones mentioned were commercial open source, and were only mentioned in an early chapter. I found more useful information on what open source BI products were out there and how to use them from Wikipoedia.

The same theme seemed to be repeated in each chapter, and it felt like a college student trying to fulfill a page quota by saying the same thing more verbosely, rather than presenting new information.

On the planet of Cybertron exists life, but not life as we know it, intelligent robots capable of transforming have waged a civil war for millions of years, the Heroic Autobots and the Evil Decepticons struggle-

...And now it only gets even more intense.

In the beginning of 2012, IDW announced Transformers would have not one, but TWO ongoing series, and so, fans didn't know quite what to expect, until it was announced that the talent behind both would reflect the works to follow onward. James Roberts, co-writer of Last Stand of the Wreckers and author of the lauded two parter Chaos Theory story now stands head writer alongside some familiar faces, with fellow Wrecker artist Nick Roche helping in, and IDW regular Alex Milne standing as the mainstay artist!

While in Sister series Robots in Disguise, the story is of political intrigue and slow burning thriller, More Than Meets the Eye is a riproaring adventure into space, think Star Trek, but everyone can turn into a car, or a memory stick if you want to stay non-shapist!

The reading is light on pages, but each crammed with more depth and entertainment than any ongoing transformers story in possibly 20 years, and from the blast off, the gathering of a crew and the reveal of a terrifying secret aboard the ship, this issue covers the debut of the team, and shapes up well for IDW's future.

While 'RiD' boasts a familiar line up, 'MTMTE' is full of new and unexplored characters, ripe for introduction and quick to warm to, and best of all?

You don't even have to have read a comic before this to enjoy it.

It certainly HELPS, and to assist, also within is penned by Roberts and Co. the one-shot comic 'The Death of Optimus Prime', detailing the wedge driven into the Autobots that has created such a split.

The Lost Light is lost, and there's a wide, wide galaxy out there between the crew and their goals.

But luckily for us, the adventure is so much more than the destination...

Do Not Miss This!

If you're not reading this series, you're missing out on something truly great. Transformers comics have definitely had ups and down in quality of art and writing. But this is the absolute tip-top on both counts. It's not a reboot, but it is a definite shift in the status quo, and that means you can jump on here without having read anything else, and do OK. We're all figuring this out as we go. These aren't generally well-known characters. And that's all to the good, because we get to watch the story flesh them out in new, surprising ways.

This volume contains the foundational issues, so it's mostly basic adventure stuff here. The storytelling is dense, with LOTS happening in each issue. All the important seeds for later on in the arc are laid down in this book.

This series builds in quality of storytelling as it progresses, so don't stop at Volume 1.

Anton Waters pressed his hot, soft mouth against my hammering pulse.

I melted under him, my body dissolving into shivers. Panting, I put my hands on the table, gripping the table cloth tightly as I struggled to keep myself from touching him back. My fingers itched to feel him. My mouth watered at the thought of tasting him.

"Our marriage would be mutually beneficial,” he said, breath ghosting over my skin. “I think you might even enjoy it."

No, no, no, no, no... "No one would enjoy being forced into sex for money,” I ground out.

He smirked against my throat and swept my hair aside. Lightly, gently, he placed lingering kisses down my throat and up over my neck.

"I would never force you. You will always want it."

My heart twisted in my chest. I know, I know, I wanted to say, but I couldn't bring myself to admit it.

His breath was hot on the back of my neck. "Do you think I won't be able to please you? Is that it?" he whispered, and I felt his words sink into my skin, into my bones, zipping down my body, electrifying me. I wanted him so badly, but how could I tell him that obtaining orgasms with him was the least of my worries?

His leg pressed against mine. The heat of his body seeped through the fabric between us and I wished I'd been more prudent and worn pants instead of a skirt. His fingers alighted on my thigh and began to trace shivering patterns across my skin. Lips and tongue played with the sensitive nape of my neck, and his hand drifted down my arm, fingertips skimming the outside swell of my breast. Between my thighs, I felt myself grow hot and slick.

"I could make you come right here in this restaurant," he murmured, and his voice was hoarse. "Right in front of everyone. I'll make you scream."

His words set me on fire. "I'd like to see you try," I whispered back. Bravado. My voice shook.

But it wasn't a lie.

Pulling back, he graced me with another one of his faint smiles. "You are the perfect woman for me," he said. "Defiant, with nowhere to run. You'd rather die on your feet than live on your knees." His fingers drifted up my leg, up under my skirt. I swallowed around the lump in my throat.

"I'd rather live on my feet than die on my knees, thanks," I told him.

He laughed, then looked shocked that he'd done so. I saw him forcibly recover, but I had no time to bask in my tiny victory. One long, hot finger brushed against the soft mound above my pussy, robbing me of thought.

"You may live on your feet," he whispered, "but I will bend you over and fuck you all the same."

And he slipped under the table.

Christmas romanc trilogy

These three stories make interesting reading but not fascinating reading...it isn't a book you won't want to put down. The stories are different so you won't be bored. I am a fan of Sheryl Woods so I enjoyed that story the most. This book is good for light reading to get you into the mood for the holidays but if you read it in July you'll still enjoy it. And it is a very good way to become familiar with the styles of the three different authors.

12 overlooked stories that cast doubt over the official verdict on JFK assassination

Bill Sloan was sitting across the city desk at The Dallas Times Herald when a rewrite man answered a police reporter's phone call, leaped to his feet and shouted, "Shots fired at the motorcade! JFK may have been hit!"

Thus began, on Friday, November 22, 1963, an episode of epic proportions in our nation's history. And nowhere did its immediate impact land more forcefully than at The Times Herald, on Pacific Avenue just a few blocks from the infamous Texas School Book Depository. Organized chaos reigned as the roomful of journalists began to cope with what was, by far, the biggest story they'd ever encountered.

On that fateful day, Sloan, the now highly regarded author of chronicles of Pacific battles during World War II and the Korean War, was a young reporter and copy editor on Dallas's now-defunct evening newspaper. He quickly became one of the busiest and most productive staff members chasing myriad angles of the assassination story. Interest in every detail related to this tragic event soared, and continues today as its 50th anniversary approaches.

(Aside: I was a co-worker with Sloan on the day of the assassination. I had walked two blocks over to Main Street and watched the presidential procession go by, and by the time I got back to the paper, the tragedy unfolding down the street and around the corner had already struck the newsroom like a thunderbolt.)

You don't have to be an assassination aficionado to be interested in the under-reported or unreported facts found in "The Kennedy Conspiracy," Bill Sloan's absorbing collection of side-stories that were generally glossed over in the aftermath of the assassination. Most of these 12 accounts of individuals and events were either ignored or treated lightly by the Warren Commission. Despite its report's voluminous size and supposed thoroughness, the commision and staff overlooked or ignored key figures with possibly crucial information, largely because their stories clashed with the official finding that Oswald acted alone.

Many followers of the assassination story feel, as Sloan does, that there were too many loose ends in the investigation and that more than just a lone misguided miscreant must have been involved. Sloan's dozen informative interviews contain enought unexplained circumstances and unanswered questions to stir, or heighten, any reader's doubts. There were those who say they saw gunsmoke puff up from the grassy knoll in front of the motorcade; a Parkland Hospital physician who said he saw what looked like an enry, not exit, wound on the front of JFK's throat before another doctor's scalpel made it unrecognizable; and a young family close to the motorcade who said they saw a squad of Secret Service agents armed with sub-machine guns jump out of the car behind the Kennedy limousine and run into the crowd, but the agency denied the existence of any such agents.

An intriguing but largely untold story is that of Dallas police officer Billy Fowler, who was patrolman j.D. Tippit's partner. Sloan wonders how dramatically differently things might have turned out had Fowler not taken the day off and instead had been in the patrol car when Tippit allegedly was confronted and slain by Oswald. No one at the federal level showed much interest in Tippit or details of his murder, nor did they consider Billy Fowler's story about stopping a nervous driver with an incongruous Mexico City address on his Texas driver's license.

Sloan's fascinating footnotes to the assassination story have more credence than many of the conspiratorial theories about the death of John F. Kennedy in downtown Dallas. And while these revelations don't prove a conspiracy or complicity by others besides Lee Harvey Oswald, they do make one stop and think. That's something skilled reporter Bill Sloan feels federal investigators, dismissive as they were of any information that disagreed with their conclusions, didn't do.

Excellent collection of very interesting stories that are assassination related

This small jewel of a book is packed with info.you won't find anywhere else.Some of the chapters are on well known assassination figures such as Bill Newman, Ed Hoffman, and James Tague, but Sloan's writing is crisp, chilling, and powerful and so it all comes alive in their own words and Sloan's research. As a former Dallas newsman he was able to interview people that I'd surmise were off limits to researchers, and this book initially came out in 1993, so many of the folks he talked too are now dead. The chapter with Dr. Joe Goldstritch is really interesting, as well as a former Secret Service Agent whose main theory sounds like a doozy, but he does have some important info. as a backstory. like so many,Goldstritch, the afforementioned, and countless others, if his main observations are true, then the whole JFK murder changes as to what happened.The JFK Assassination is a bottomless well of mystery, intigue, and no one theory answers it all,everywhere is major contradiction and nothing adding up. Yet whatever one believes, or doesn't, this book is a valuable addition.

Reopening and Examining the Nation's Wound: Necessary and Important

This is a very useful book about the JFK assassination. Without intending any disrespect to the author, it is well written in a Reader's Digest style. This is a good thing. The 12 stories are complete and compelling. All or some may be "revelations" depending on the reader's previous involvement and interest in the assassination.

Many assassination researchers are getting "long in the tooth" and I guess Mr. Sloan would fall into that category. It has been almost 50 years since the Crime of the Century was committed. It is time to reframe the subject for a broader audience. THE KENNEDY CONSPIRACY: 12 STARTLING REVELATIONS ABOUT THE JFK ASSASSINATION does just that. The fact is that most people living in America today do not a have first-hand knowledge of "the big event." For many of them it is ancient history.

However, considering the nature of the crime and its continuing cover up by the media and the government, it is truly contemporary history. This "elephant" continues to remain unnoticed in our nation's "living room". Any and all of today's hot items of concern such as national elections, the economy, the declining value of the dollar, and the entire "Terrorism/Patriot Act"-fur ball hinge on this pivot point of history. If Jack Kennedy's head was blown off by a "lone nut" then we can move along, but if it was a conspiracy and it was covered up by the highest officials in the land for 50 years, then someone needs to pay the price to permit us to advance honestly as a country. A new house cannot be built on quicksand and a quality future cannot be built on a heinous public lie.

With regard to content, all the stories are compelling. I included Ed Hoffman (Chapter One) as a character in my fiction book SAVING JFK because he was a real witness to the action behind the picket fence on the top of the "grassy knoll". He saw it all and his testimony was never used. In fact anyone whose testimony did not jibe with the pre-determined conclusion of the Warren Report was ignored. The Kennedy crime is a fascinating subject and there are many interesting stories, Sloan provides a dozen.

Making this a current topic is critical. Bill Sloan is doing us all a service by increasing the public's awareness of this major deception. Important influence peddlers continue to promote the Warren Commission lie. Their voices become best sellers: Bill O'Reilly, Stephen King, and Norman Mailer all arrived at the same silly conclusion and they have created successful novels in support of the bogus Warren Report. The effect of their tales about Oswald is to numb minds into believing the official fairy tale. If a tree falls in the woods and no one was there to hear it land, did it make a sound? If a leader falls in front of millions--killed by unknown forces--the facts of his death covered up by powerful, high-level public and private controllers--and the aftermath of this death smelling very much like a coup--did he die in vain? May we all realize the import of this event and use that understanding to retake our country.
