Review
The latest novel from bestselling author Collins is a smooth ride into a kidnapping-murder, and the lives of a number of people connected to it through a mysterious car. Could the new 1936 yellow Packard be responsible for tragedies that wreck its owners’ lives? (At times the author has us wondering whether the car is a cousin of Stephen King’s “Christine.”) Or could the auto provide the answers they all need to find happiness? Master storytelling transports us down a scenic road where agent Helen Meeker tries to prove that a woman can cut it in J. Edgar Hoover’s old-boy’s club at the FBI, while faith and circumstance combine to shape lives during the years just prior to World War II. The deeply developed characters carpool in a high-octane plot. The only bump in the road comes when the story shifts from one owner of the car to another. (Publishers Weekly 2012-08-24)
Are some cars built evil? Collins tantalizes with this question and incorporates his love of classic cars into his latest. It’s an unforgettable, fast-paced and memorable mystery with a splash of intrigue and some romance. (Patsy Glans RT Book Reviews 2012-10-01)
This novel appeals to a variety of readers. It features enough details about the Packard plant and the struggles of all auto companies through the depression to hook car enthusiasts. They will also relate to the fascination every owner has for the sporty Packard and the motto “ask the man who owns one.” The novel also appeals to mystery fans as they try to piece together the clues to solve a murder, a kidnapping and track down a most- wanted criminal. Female readers will relate to the battle FBI Agent Helen Meeker fights to get into “the men’s club.” Having Eleanor Roosevelt as an ally helps. Helen can relate to the anguish the Hall family goes through when their daughter Rose is kidnapped and the Packard is stolen along with the ransom money. She reveals to her FBI partner Reese that her younger sister was kidnapped and never found.
Ace Collins is the author and an avid collector of classic cars. Collin’s book would make a good Father’s Day present. When Dad puts it down, the rest of the family can enjoy the read. (Examiner 2013-04-15)
The title is enticing as to the story it holds, eyeing the curves and the straight lines. THis book had you travel from the inside of a study to a small town that held memories, good bad and some that never wanted to surface. I loved this story, it pulled me in almost without warning, I had to find a place to get comfortable as I was not letting it down. The mystery was set up in a way the reader had to ask themselves, what is the real mystery? Everything was important and intriguing. The Yellow Packard itself, in its strength and beauty weaves a tale of love and loss. This book is more than a good read it is a wold ride that never leaves you on the side of the road longing for a ride. (Faith Oygard Labor Not in Vain 2013-09-06)

Reviews from a Man's Perspective

At first, the car brings George, his wife Jean, and their daughter Rose an unexpected boon. But tragedy follows when Rose is kidnapped. It just seems like two months ago that I was nose-deep into a new Ace Collins book (so maybe it was more than two months, but who's counting). Today, excitedly so, I get to tell you about another book that he has published. There is another one that I saw on the bookshelves just this past weekend called "The Christmas Star", so we are definitely getting our fulfillment of Ace here at the end of the year!
Cursed, Possessed, Nothing but Trouble! These are just a few of the terms used to describe this beautiful 1936 Packard. The fact that it was Canary Yellow didn't help it go unnoticed either. George Hall is a proud new papa, so proud that he couldn't stand to think of taking his new princess home in his dilapidated old car. At a local auction he sees the Packard and knows that it's the perfect car for his family. Undeterred with all of the negative talk surrounding the car with those at the auction, George winds up being the high bidder for the car. A close collision with the car and a runaway dump truck puts George and his family on the road to the high life, so there can't be any truth to these rumors of the car. George is riding high with a promotion, his wife has just bought a floral shop and then the unthinkable happens. Their daughter is kidnapped! And so begins a wild ride with this Packard. FBI Agent Helen Meeker is hot on the trail of the car and the kidnappers. From the aluminum salesman who bought the car and saw his job prospects increase tenfold, to the airplane pilot with a daughter with an inoperable brain tumor who saves the life of a doctor who just so happens to be able to operate on his daughter. The car seems to run from good to bad and back again. What do all of these people have to do with the car? Will George and his wife ever find their daughter? What secret is Agent Helen Meeker keeping and will she ever find a resolution? Good luck getting those answers out of me or Ace, READ THE BOOK!
The thread that Ace has woven through this entire book is astonishing. For someone as simple as me, it's sometime difficult to remember what letter comes after "N" if I haven't sung the whole song first. Ace, though, can throw these characters together in such a way that you believe in them, you follow their every step because you don't want anything bad to happen. As each individual or couple interacts with this car, he brings into play scenarios that not only are realistic, but help with the overall plot of the story. There seem to be several mini-stories within this whole book and each of them is as exciting as the whole. I will readily admit that I'm more interested in books in the current era, but this book would not have been the same if it had been written that way. Having this set in the late 30's and early 40's made this story pop!
So is this a "man's book"? This book has cars, intrigue, police chases, airplane wrecks and more. This book would be on my list of "must be read" by anybody, not just men!

Yellow Packard Mystery
By Nora A. Stlaurent
Ace delivers a story with a great blend of suspense, mystery, romance and quirky characters that captured my curiosity in this intriguing who-done-it?
Mystery and legend surround the Yellow Packard just like those of the Hope Diamond owners. Disaster befalls this car right from the assembly line! Everyone is a little freaked by the car and the first owner gets the car at a great price because of it. The owner's thankful for a way to get to and from work. The car is way more than he had hoped for his family.
Ace brings to life a cast of colorful characters I became attached to, rooted for, rejoiced with in their triumphs and felt sad for them in their tears of tragedy. The author brilliantly weaves in elements of yester year and I adored the sense of small town community, where everyone knows your name.
I'm thankful to have received a review copy of a story that was compelling, pulled at my heart strings, was filled with surprises, and left me with a smile on my face and a satisfied ending. I highly recommend it.
I’m thankful for the review copy of a book that answers the question, “What does it mean when someone says; God has healed me from the inside out? How can I let God touch the hurts in my heart and be healed?”
Denise says, “You can only live with your heart shut down for so long. Eventually you will fight for your healing or you will die… Some even find God when their lives fall apart!....Sometimes a person has to die in order to really live. ..Hungry for something real?.. (tired of just going through the motions of life and feeling numb inside?) Want to feel alive? Seek whatever helps you rediscover that carefree childlike heart I know is in there somewhere – that is what you should be doing to Feel Alive!”
This is a walk Denise’s characters have gone on and/or just started down the path. I enjoyed this cast so much, they are fun, bold and each have been knocked around by life. Each has a different result and story to tell.
Scarlett Jo is a Pastor’s wife that’s fun and doesn’t care what people think about her. Denise writes, “Scarlett Jo hadn’t simply survived her life. She had learned how to live in spite of it- and not to worry too much about the perceptions of others.”
Scarlett Jo is fun loving, free spirited and an inspirational person! I loved her voice and her outlook on life she says, “Oh, child do you not know about couponing?...I’m feeding a pack of wolves at my house. If I didn’t know how to coupon, my children would have had to eat me by now. But if you ever want to learn how to do it, you just let me know. It is crazy girl! I can go to a store and leave and they’ve paid me money.” (I want to learn – teach me! Teach Me! Grin!)
The characters in this novel welcome you in as family. They’re situations will tug at your heart. What I love about Denise’s books are this, you’ll be having a good time reading then all of a sudden she cleverly interweaves spiritual truths that pierce your heart, make you stop and think. Denise will help you “See lies you believe.” You’ll laugh out loud and get teary eyed in parts of this story, a winning combination.
I really liked Scarlett Jo’s husband too he says, “I watch people. I take in people. And to be honest, I learn a great deal about them by what they don’t say.”
I highly recommend this novel and the non-fiction companion book called Reclaiming your Heart! It’s a win win combination. A book you’ll want to put on your summer reading list. Did I mention I just love the cover of this book too! It’s a keeper!

Exciting and Action Packed!
By Charity U
Wow, what an interesting adventure/mystery! The book opens with a death, closes with a solution, and incorporates numerous stories and adventures inbetween. It was packed with surprises. I was always interested by it, but at the same time, I was able to put it down. The last quarter was extra riveting and will definitely keep you (as the reader) reading! My only problems were a few things that struck me personally as strange...the word "teen" used in 1937 (although it wasn't invented until 1941 - pet peeve [see page 25]) and a two-day baby smiling (rather improbable [page 54]). However, the whole book was seamlessly written despite all the stories in it, and I think it will be enjoyed by male and female readers alike.
**I reviewed this book for the author and publisher. However, I was not obligated to post a positive review, nor was I recompensed in any other way.**
