Only 100 questions, but there's definitely a shortage of practice NCE tests out there to buy, so I'd definitely use this if you're trying to get your hands on as many as you can before exam time. Does a good job of representing the areas that are on the exam.

About the Author

The Reys were born in Hamburg, Germany. Hans Augusto Rey (1898-1977) met his wife-to-be, Margret (1906-1996), at a party in her father’s home in Germany; when he first caught a glimpse of her, she was sliding down the banister. In their twenties and thirties they lived in Paris and in Rio de Janeiro, where Hans sold bathtubs in villages along the Amazon River. Eventually Cambridge, Massachusetts, became the Reys’ home and community. Throughout their lives the Reys created many lively books together, including SPOTTY, PRETZEL, and lift-the-flap books such as HOW DO YOU GET THERE? The manuscript of the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and CURIOUS GEORGE was published in 1941. Their incorrigible little monkey has become an American icon, selling millions of books and capturing the hearts of readers everywhere. CURIOUS GEORGE has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Additional Curious George books followed, as well as such other favorites as CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS and FIND THE CONSTELLATIONS.

Purchased as a gift, but of course I had to read the story before wrapping! Nice hardbound book with traditional illustrations. The English/Spanish translation was accurate, no slag, (which I tend to find a lot of in bilingual books). Seeing a child's face light up after opening her present, priceless.

The Last Stop by Kirt J. Boyd

In The Last Stop, the action takes place within the confines of a rest home for senior citizens in the beautiful state of Colorado. The author, also from Colorado, derives part of the inspiration for the characters and situations in the book from nursing home visits to his grandfather, who himself was full of wit and charm. The sometimes bizarre and always funny antics of the characters in the home are revealed through weekly newsletter publications at the residence, written correspondence between residents and their friends on the "outside" and everyday events that occur in the dining room, workout room and in the outdoor recreation area.
Of particular delight are the frequent references to the large and quirky four-legged resident of the home, Holy Moses. "Holy" is 169 pounds of English Mastiff whose specialties include snoring, drooling and sneaking food from the buffet tables. (He is a dog some residents love and some just love to hate.) The newsletter states, " We love him, even when he drools, but we do have a budget to consider, not to mention the integrity of our food."

There is a memorable encounter between Holy and another dog that comes to visit in the home. They have a scrapping fight for territory and the newsletter then reads, "Alas, Holy is now one ear short of a pair." (Page 97) The follow up is worth a chuckle, too. "We've got him laid up in Mary Riley's suite with enough pain killers to put the whole facility to sleep."

Although most residents feign dislike for Holy Moses, he is clearly a source of adventure and drama in the quiet lives of the inhabitants of Mary Stuart Riley's Home. The Last Stop is light hearted and an amusing read for anyone.

Love, love, love this book. The characters are enjoyable and you feel like you really know them. Appreciated the little touches-dog interaction, character interaction. Definitely worth adding to your Kindle collection. Look forward to reading more from this author.

Silliness at its Best

It took me a little while to get into the flow of The Last Stop. The assorted monologues and newsletters were all funny but disconnected, and at first I couldn't detect any real story. Then a character would appear again with a little more information, and soon it became clear that there were several stories going on, all intertwined, at The Last Stop, and the newsletter served to pull it altogether. By the last half of the book, I could hardly wait to find out how Cassandra's music was progressing, if Ernie ever got up the courage to speak, or most importantly, if Holy Moses and Violet ever found love. The place is full of activity, odd characters, and a wacky sense of community. In another thirty-five years or so, this is the kind of place I'd choose for my last stop (although I'd stay out of the beauty salon.)

As it turned out, that might be the least of my problems. I’ve been tagged by hell.

Now every ugly, nasty being from hades was on my trail. I have suddenly became a magnet for demon disaster, and the only way I am getting out of this alive was by putting my life in the demon spawn’s hands.

One wrong decision and my butt was toast.

I truly enjoyed this book. Its about a seventeen year old girl, Angel who moves to a small town with her mom where she befriends her not so ordinary neighbors, brother and sister Travis and Lexi and their cousin Chase. And its almost like hate at first for Chase and Angel. She knows there is something weird about the family, based on how people in town don't look at them and even refuse to speak to them. Then one night Angel follows an angered Chase into the woods where he reveals his family's secret. They are Divisa. Half demon half human. From there Angel is thrust into the dangers of their world while she and Chase fight their feelings for eachother. And boy do they. They can't be in the same room without fighting. I really liked that Angel is not a girly girl. She loves to play Xbox much to Lexi's disappointment, "a girl finally moves in next door and she has more in common with my brother". Chase is the bad boy with the bad attitude. And though he seems to have a stick up his butt at the beginning you come to understand his reason for pushing Angel away. Towards the end there is a bittersweet moment that definitely had me in tears. Then of course Chase being his stubborn self in which a line is delivered by Angel, "Only he could think of arguing with Death. Some things never change" had me smiling. I recommend this book to anyone looking for that story where the girl falls for the bad boy with the sexy smile and dark secret. And yes I did kind of find myself a bit weirded out as I rooted for the girl to get with the demon but hey its just a story. Its an awesome book with strong, funny characters. It does kind of fall similar to Twilight. With the girl following the brooding monster into the woods and demand to know what he's hiding, then tell him she's not afraid of him but it is different. Trust me. Worth purchasing.

Don't Waste Your Time

I never write reviews but this book was so bad I wanted to spare the next person thinking about spending their money or time. I made it about halfway through and couldn't stand it anymore. I felt like I wanted to pull out my red pencil and start correcting the mistakes. "HE WAS PRANCED READY TO ATTACK." Are you kidding me? As many others have noted, this is a VERY poor ripoff of Jennifer Armentrout's Lux series, which BTW I loved. I've become accustomed to typo's and slight grammatical errors with these indie ebooks, but I just couldn't make it through this one. It has no redeeming qualities.

Eerily Similar to Another Book

And by "similar", I mean almost copied exactly, for this seems like only the names and a few details are changed from the first of the Lux series, Obsidian, by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Obsidian I did very much enjoy, so to see a derivative version (fan-fiction?) is upsetting. Don't waste your time with this free book, go buy the better written original. You won't regret that purchase.
