And Horton the Elephant, who faithfully sat.
Then one day reading Seuss just wasn't enough,
I wanted to know how Seuss thought up this stuff.
I wanted to know what went on in his head.
So I wrote him a letter. Here's what it said:
"Dear Dr. Seuss,
What makes you, you?
What makes you think the thoughts that you do?
Is there a secret that helps you to see
An elephant sitting alone in a tree?
It might be a secret you don't want to be found,
And so when reporters come sneaking around,
You hide your great Seussian secret away.
You greet them politely and always you say,
"I'm really quite normal, quite normal, you see.
Yes I am Dr. Seuss and who might you be?"
The claim that you're normal. Come on now, let's face it.
You haven't a fact upon which to base it.
You constantly rhyme. Is your flair for phonetic
Something acquired? Or is it genetic?
You say that you're normal, but I disagree.
Please tell me your secret. It'll be safe with me.
And I signed it,
"Sincerely,
Annie G. Magee"

It rhymed! It did! Five stars is my bid!

I wasn't sure what I would think about this book at first. In some ways my inner child was screaming "you can't make a book about Dr.Seuss and make it rhyme like a Dr.Seuss book and then make it your own. Hate admitting when I'm wrong but this time I was. This book is well written and entertaining and fun to read. Much like the featured author in this book, the story has a plot and although it rhymes from beginning to end, it never gets boring. I loved the forward the author put in this book as it was humble and honest and gave you a real sense of how much she cared about this work. Everyone in Whoville should be proud of this work that honors this fine creator of fiction. Loved it.

A new Seuss book...finally...

Surely we lost a lot with the passing of Dr. Seuss...now, in this endearing new work, Seuss returns through the eyes of author Anne Emerick and "Annie G. Magee." Emerick gives voice to the childhood need in all of us to talk to our idols and heroes and, more notably, lets that hero talk back to remind us that heroes are really just like us- with an extra dose of effort. Now, in addition to teaching millions of children to read, Seuss--with some significant help from Anne Emerick--is a vehicle for encouraging young writers...and the pair even send readers/writers out of the book with a new topic for a story of their own.

My child within is clapping

What a delightful read - and I'm a granny, reading it to myself. My grand-daughter has that joy ahead of her.
I believe Dr. Seuss would feel proud and grateful for this worthy tribute to him and his unique style. I doubt anyone could capture his original brand of humour, but Anne has mimicked his style admirably, whilst offering a fascinating storyline for the reader to follow.
I love her postscript about those 'who work hard at what they do best . . . just everyday people who accomplished some feat'. Anne certainly has worked hard - and accomplished an entertaining and creative children's storybook.
